By all means, Mexico is a festive country, but particularly so in the month of December. If you haven’t visited Mexico in the month of December, I highly recommend it, especially in the colonial cities and even the warm weather destinations as well.
Churches and cathedrals have extended services, decorations adorn city blocks and houses and hotels everywhere take part in holiday festivities. The atmosphere is warm and enticing all around.
After just returning from a trip to Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, I can assure you that (even in the warm, glorious weather) the town and all hotels in the area are celebrating holiday cheer.
With picturesque and grand Christmas trees decorated from head to toe, pine wreaths, festive holiday music and lights galore, there is no chance you will forget it’s the holiday season while in Mexico.
One hotel I just visited said that they will light 2,000 candles a night on their property.
There are many festivals and dozens of events to make your holidays even brighter in Mexico. Fellow travel writer, Suzanne Barbezat of Mexico Today and About.com Mexico Travel Guide, offers a cultural menu of plentiful December events in Mexico.
December 12 marks a very special day celebrated in Mexico – when Our Lady of Guadalupe (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe), also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe (Virgen de Guadalupe) is celebrated and thousands from all over the country make the most important pilgrimage to the Basílica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, where the miraculous image of La Virgen Morena is kept.
Also, every year from December 16 – 24, posadas take place in Mexico and celebrate the reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. Another fantastic and highly recommended time to be in Mexico.
We hope you have the opportunity to participate in some of these events in Mexico for the Navidad, with all of the hot deals in Mexico right now.
However, if you’re not able to be in Mexico for the holidays, and if you’re looking for unique gifts for this time of year, consider purchasing a gift that benefits an organization in Mexico.
