Our friends at Loteria Grill (Los Angeles) have a couple of special evenings taking place this week at their locations in Hollywood and Santa Monica in celebration of the wines of Baja California.
“Mexico has a long history with wine. The very first vines planted by the Spanish in the Americas were in Mexico and, very quickly, by the late 1500s, the wine was so good that Spanish vintners were protesting the competition and King Philip II of Spain banned winemaking in Mexico. The ban lasted more than 200 years and winemaking became a little-practiced craft. With the perfect soil and climate for great wines, a new generation of mexican vintners has been using a refined combination of centuries-old and modern techniques to produce a growing portfolio of must-try, prestige wines in Mexico. We celebrate these wines with a 2-evening Food and Wine event.”
Wednesday, June 4 – 7:30pm
On Wednesday, June 4th at Loteria Hollywood, the evening will feature an eight-course, fine-dining tasting menu by Chef Javier Plascencia (Mision 19) and Jimmy Shaw (Loteria Grill). They will be pairing each dish with a unique wine from Baja California. To add to this special night, they have invited Maite Gomez-Rejon from LA Artbites to highlight a brief history on 6 centuries of Mexican wine, Lui Hussong Sommelier for these two evenings will give highlights of the winemaking taking place in Mexico and Loteria’s Chef de Musica and KCRW DJ, Raul Campos, will provide the sounds for the evening.
