“Gina Machorro, has been dubbed “The Information Goddess” of Puerto Escondido as she created and has been maintaining (from her own resources) a public Tourist Information Booth for the past decade. She also hosts walking tours that take visitors on an insider’s tour through the indigenous Mixteca culture, the black-African roots of Puerto, fishing, religious and daily life in Puerto. Her archeological and culinary tours help preserve local culture and support local producers such as traditional Oaxaca chocolate grinders, tamale makers, home cooks and fishermen. She also gives back to the community by supporting animal rescue, indigenous craft cooperatives and children’s orphanages. Our town would not be the same without her.” Gina was nominated by Michele Peterson.
